Partnership Programmes

The Athens Community Trust is proud to be in partnership with WaYES. WaYES is a youth-orientated Waste Minimisation project that aims to Reduce-Reuse-and-Recycle waste from businesses and homes to redirect the amount of recyclable waste going to our landfills.

While reducing the negative impact our community has on the environment, WaYES also supports Youth in the Community with education, training and employment opportunities as a part of the project.

With the collaboration of Athens Community Trust, the project aspires to Empower our YOUTH to develop tangible pathways into apprenticeships, long term employment or a return to further education. This approach addresses the concerns around the number of YOUTH that are not in employment, education or training.

How does it work?

The WaYES Waste Minimisation Team will collect recyclable materials and process them at our waste minimisation plant in preparation for being re-used or recycled. Some materials such as corrugated iron and roofing material will be packaged and shipped to the Pacific Islands for use in the construction of buildings and homes in villages. While other materials such as E-Waste will be disposed and recycled appropriately.

How can I support this initiative?

Give us your waste!

By allowing WaYES to uplift and recycle recyclable items that your business or household no longer have use for or are no longer functional, FREE OF CHARGE*. WaYES is interested in your old laptops that no longer work, household appliances, mobile phones, metals, etc. Your house or business no longer have to worry about going to the tip, waiting for inorganic collections or paying for a skip. Simply contact us and we’ll remove your recyclable waste for you FREE OF CHARGE*.

You can also drop-off your waste to our waste minimisation plant or make contact (refer to contact below for directions) and ask about it.

* The only time a fee may be charged are in cases where the volume of waste is very significant

Why support WaYES if you are a business or organisation?

By supporting WaYES you are directly giving back to the community (providing jobs for YOUTH, minimising the harmful impact of human waste on the environment) and you’re doing it for little to no cost to your own organisation. Your support is also one that will last in the long-term by helping Youth to sustain themselves and access greater opportunities that will give them pathways into employment or education. Thereby increasing the chances of a change in their quality of life. You’re also having your refuse and waste removed and being put to good use or disposed of appropriately. WaYES is a one of a kind project that asks for support with waste and not with money from your organisation.
